I'm sooooo behind in my blog updates - sorry!
So where was I? Oh yeah...speed dating...for the 1st time.
I drove up to Mt. Washington, which was only about 10 minutes from my house and found a parking spot just a few blocks from the bar. I actually had to drive past the bar on the hunt for good parking, and it was super cute, cozy, warm and inviting. Check it out:
I walked the few blocks to Havana, looked around, and kind of had a Carrie Bradshaw moment. I thought to myself "Wow, this room is full of 30-something women, who are all put together, working professionals. How the heck did we get here to this place of speed dating to find a man?!"
And then I got nervous.
(Which isn't an emotion I get often, so it hit me like a ton of bricks.) I actually had to psyche myself up to walk into the bar! My ultimate thinking was "hey, if I don't click with anyone, I'm not any worse off than when I walked in the door". This was after I decided I'm pretty, successful, and ready to find a partner haha.
So after a half hour of lame ice breaking "guess who has each characteristic" Bingo, the speed dating began. The women sat on one side of the tables, and the men rotated through each of us one by one, chatting for 5 minutes each.
In most cases, the 5 minutes flew by, but there was one in particular that was horrid. The guy looked at me like this:
And kept saying "What do you liiiiike?" And my response was "ummm...for breakfast? desserts? Because you'd better not be asking me about the bedroom." Then I changed the subject.
Total CREEP.
So enough with the bad, onto the good. I met someone who has his life together, a great sense of humor (my cheeks hurt by the end of the night), terrific conversationalist with great values and ideas. Obviously I'm not sharing his name or anything else, because hello...this is an open blog. Without giving too much else away, I'll say that he also speaks Spanish and is well traveled. There ya have it.
So after speed dating and dancing the merengue, we went out for sushi and a martini/beer and had a blast. We're hanging out again this wknd - not sure what we're doing, as it's a surprise, but I've been told that casual attire is perfect. Should be fun!
Here's to new beginnings! And worst case, I made a new friend.

GOOD for you.
